Cape Town Activists: important Anti-Terror Bill meeting this Saturday
The latest anti-terror laws, set to be approved on 26 November, are much worse than the previous draft and could see workers who strike against multinationals being sent to Guantanamo Bay!!!

The Anti-War Coalition hereby invites you to an urgent meeting to discuss the latest draft of the Anti-Terror Bill / Counter Terrorism Act.
It has come to our attention that this draft is much worse than the previous one. The Bill is set to go to parliament on the 26th November, leaving very little time to mobilise. Some of the worrying aspects are:
1. Illegal strikes at multinationals could be regarded as ‘terrorist’ and even lead to extradition of leaders, eg to the US or Guantanamo Bay
2. Unions and workers could be held liable for losses in such illegal strikes under this law
3. Houses, and assets could be attached and the onus is on you to prove your innocence etc
4. Extradition is further entrenched and could possibly lead to allowing those extradited to face the death penalty in the US and other places;
5. The SA govt must implement any UN Security Council resolution on ‘terrorist’ groups
6. Huge fines for failure to report, from R100 million, to R200 million for hoaxes; to R300 million for concealing suspects; to R1000 million for those found guilty, or life imprisonment.
This new law amounts to a permanent state of emergency in SA. We have already started a daily picket outside parliament from Wed 29 Oct 2003 from 11am to 2pm , until the 26th November.
Please mobilise for the picket and please come to the meeting with suggestions for a programme of action.
